LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man arrested in Louisville on Saturday, October 24, has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on Bardstown Road in July, Louisville Metro Police said. WHAS11 in Louisville also reported that Gerson Arrivillaga, 27, had been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run from the Fourth of July weekend. The charges are allegations; he has not been convicted in the case.
Police said officers responded on Saturday to Shepherdsville Road and Rural Way after a report that a car was parked in the middle of the road, and found Gerson Alvarado Arrivillaga slumped over his steering wheel. According to police, he was not able to respond to officers, his speech was slurred, and officers reported a white substance on his nose. He was charged with driving under the influence and driving with open alcohol containers, police said.
During the preliminary investigation, police said they were able to connect Arrivillaga to the fatal hit-and-run that happened in July, and charged him with murder, fleeing the scene of an accident and four counts of wanton endangerment.
In that July crash, LMPD said officers responded at about 1:30 a.m. on July 5 to a pedestrian crash near Bardstown Road and South Watterson Trail. Police said a vehicle had been stopped in the left lane of Bardstown Road just north of Watterson Trail after a separate collision, and the person believed to have been driving it was standing beside the car near a concrete median when a vehicle travelling southbound in the northbound lanes struck him and fled without stopping to render aid. The man was taken to UofL Hospital, where he later died, police said.
