BOSTON, Massachusetts — A 25-year-old East Boston man is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on a charge of possession of a loaded machine gun after a traffic stop in Dorchester at about 1:38 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, the Boston Police Department said. Police identified the man as Takhari Walter Robinson. The charges are allegations and the case will proceed in court.

Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were in the area for a prior call for a person with a gun when they saw a white vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed down Washington Street with heavily tinted windows, police said. The vehicle continued onto Dorchester Avenue from Talbot Avenue, and officers stopped it at Dorchester Avenue and Van Winkle Street, according to the department. Mass Daily News reported the same police account of the stop.

Police said Robinson told officers he was leaving a party on Washington Street — the same location as the prior person-with-a-gun call — and was returning to his home in East Boston, but officers said they had seen the vehicle travelling throughout Dorchester with no intention of driving toward East Boston.

Officers issued an exit order, which police said Robinson complied with, and located a firearm under the driver's seat, the department said. Police said the firearm was a Glock 20 10mm handgun with an attached sear-switch making it capable of automatic fire, loaded with fifteen rounds of live ammunition in a high-capacity magazine.

Police said Robinson is expected to be arraigned on charges of Possession of a Loaded Machine Gun, Possession of a Machine Gun, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and was also issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for violating the auto laws.
