Michigan State Police said the initiative was intended to prevent collisions by tackling dangerous driving before incidents occurred, rather than simply responding after crashes had taken place. 'We aren't just responding to crashes. We're proactively working to prevent them,' the force's Second District said. Police added that similar traffic enforcement operations would be carried out on Michigan's state highways in the future.

I-75, I-96 and I-275 are major Metro Detroit corridors used by commuters and truck traffic, and motor carrier officers took part in this operation. Police say more such freeway enforcement operations are planned — hands-free violations and following too closely were among the most common offences recorded this time.
