What police say happened

The department said the first officers to arrive found two wounded men. One of them, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was taken to an area hospital with injuries police described as non-life-threatening. Police have not released the dead man's name, the names of the wounded, or any detail about what led up to the shooting.

A third adult male turned up at an area hospital on his own, police said, and was also being treated for gunshot injuries described as non-life-threatening. That means all three men shot in the incident were accounted for through the scene and the hospitals, while no one had been arrested in connection with the gunfire when the department issued its account.

Police did not name the business in their announcement. FOX 2 (KTVI) reported that the shooting happened at a gas station on North Highway 67, and described the two wounded men as hospitalised. The department has not said whether the shooting began inside or outside the business, how many shots were fired, or whether surveillance video exists.

A second deadly shooting in north county this Halloween weekend

The Highway 67 shooting was the second killing in north St. Louis County in a matter of hours. On Saturday evening, a man was shot and killed in Jennings, near Shannonaire Drive, and St. Louis County police confirmed to KSDK (5 On Your Side) that a person of interest was in custody in that case. Police have not said the two shootings are connected, and they are being investigated as separate incidents.

North Highway 67 — the Lindbergh Boulevard corridor — is one of north county's busiest commercial roads, lined with gas stations, restaurants and stores that stay open late and draw night-shift workers, drivers and Halloween-night crowds. The call came in just after midnight, minutes after Halloween night officially ended, at an hour when corridor businesses are among the few places still open.

What happens next

Detectives are expected to work through the scene evidence, any camera footage from businesses along the corridor and witness accounts to establish who fired and why. The dead man's identity had not been released in the department's first account; in county practice, names are typically made public after family notification. Police said the investigation remains active, and Awaaz Punjab will update this story when the department releases the victims' identities, a motive, or word of an arrest.
