Alejandro Estrada, 43, entered the plea in Clark County District Court. Under the agreement, he faces two consecutive terms of 28 years to life in the Nevada Department of Corrections — a combined 56 years to life. Prosecutors had previously reserved the right to seek the death penalty. Sentencing is scheduled for November 25 at the Regional Justice Center in downtown Las Vegas.

The victims were Amanda Frias Rosas and her husband, Victor Frias Rosas. Police said the shooting happened on May 12 at the Smith's store near Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard, where the suspect followed the couple down an aisle and opened fire. Estrada was arrested the same day and has remained in custody since, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's account of the original arrest.

What the plea means

The guilty plea means the case will not go to a jury trial, and a judge will hand down the final sentence on November 25. Estrada had initially pleaded not guilty in May. Reporting on the plea, citing court records and police documents, said investigators linked the killings to an ongoing custody-related dispute; those background details are allegations and accounts from court filings, reported here with attribution.
