Police said the first crash happened at 6:36 p.m. and involved a semi-trailer and a compact car. No injuries were reported in that crash, and one person was taken into custody on reckless driving charges, police said.
Second crash while troopers were on scene
While troopers were working at the first scene, a second crash happened at 7:49 p.m. A car approaching the area struck a pedestrian, who was taken to UMC Trauma with injuries police described as substantial but not life-threatening. That driver was arrested; police had not confirmed the charges in the reports available Tuesday night.
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) said that as of 8:34 p.m. Tuesday all southbound lanes of I-11 were closed from the 215 Beltway to Craig Road. The reports did not give a reopening time, and drivers were advised to check RTC and NDOT alerts before travelling and to slow down and move over near crash scenes.
