A man was killed early on Thursday, October 29, when a pickup truck rolled over on a freeway ramp on the Las Vegas Strip corridor, the Nevada Highway Patrol said. The single-vehicle crash happened on the southbound Interstate 15 off-ramp to eastbound Flamingo Road, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. KLAS 8 News Now noted that investigators had not yet clarified whether the man was the driver or a passenger in the truck.

Trooper Shawn Haggstrom of the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol, said the crash was reported at about 2:35 a.m. on Thursday. Investigators believe a single pickup truck rolled over on the ramp; one adult man was pronounced dead at the scene, News 3 Las Vegas (KSNV) reported from the Highway Patrol account.

KLAS 8 News Now reported the same Highway Patrol account: the crash happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. on the southbound I-15 eastbound off-ramp at Flamingo Road. The Highway Patrol said that east off-ramp was completely closed for the investigation, several lanes of the southbound Flamingo west off-ramp were also closed, cameras showed traffic backed up on I-15, and drivers were asked to use alternate routes and avoid the area — the station's traffic anchor suggested Spring Mountain Road or Tropicana Avenue as detours. No reopening time was reported.

Where it happened: the Strip's busiest freeway interchange

Flamingo Road is one of the main east-west arteries across the Las Vegas Valley, and its interchange with Interstate 15 sits immediately west of the Las Vegas Strip. The southbound I-15 off-ramp to eastbound Flamingo carries traffic toward the Strip's resort corridor, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas area and the neighbourhoods east of the freeway, at almost every hour of the day and night.

That is why an overnight ramp closure at this interchange matters beyond the crash scene itself: I-15 is the valley's main north-south freeway and the trucking route between Southern California, Las Vegas and Utah, and Flamingo is one of the crossings drivers use when I-15 slows. Troopers closed part of the freeway at the interchange while they documented the scene, KLAS reported.

A deadly month on Las Vegas roads

Thursday's death comes in what local safety officials are calling the deadliest month of 2026 for people on foot in the Las Vegas Valley — and on the same freeway system that has seen a run of fatal ramp crashes this month. On Monday night, October 26, a driver and a passenger died when their car left the southbound I-15 off-ramp at St. Rose Parkway, hit a concrete sign and caught fire, the Nevada Highway Patrol said in reporting by FOX5 and News 3.

Separately, PedSafe Vegas at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Transportation Research Center has counted 10 pedestrians killed in the valley so far in October, eight of them after sunset, and 64 pedestrian deaths in 2026 through late October. On Wednesday, officials launched a #Dusk2Dawn pedestrian-safety campaign at University Center Drive and Flamingo Road — the same road as Thursday's fatal ramp — because Flamingo has been the valley's deadliest road for pedestrians over the past five years, with 29 deaths recorded between January 2021 and June 2026.

What investigators have not said yet

The Highway Patrol has not released the dead man's name — that identification is made by the Clark County coroner — and troopers have not said what caused the pickup to roll, whether speed or impairment is suspected, or how long the ramp stayed closed. Those details normally come in the patrol's preliminary crash report.

Why overnight ramp rollovers keep happening

Single-vehicle rollovers on curved freeway ramps are a recurring pattern in fatal-crash investigations in Nevada and across the United States: a vehicle enters a tightening ramp curve faster than the curve allows, leaves its lane or strikes a barrier, and a high-centred vehicle such as a pickup rolls. Whether any of those factors played a role on the Flamingo ramp is exactly what troopers must establish from the vehicle, the roadway marks and any camera or witness evidence — Awaaz Punjab does not treat the general pattern as the cause of this crash.

For Punjabi truckers and other commercial drivers who run I-15 between California and Utah overnight, the practical lesson from the Highway Patrol's account is narrow and immediate: the Flamingo interchange ramps are tight, traffic on them runs around the clock, and a single wreck on a ramp can close part of the freeway with little warning in the small hours.

What is solid

  • A pickup rolled over on the southbound I-15 off-ramp to eastbound Flamingo Road at about 2:35 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, per the Nevada Highway Patrol
  • One adult man was pronounced dead at the scene, Trooper Shawn Haggstrom said
  • The crash closed part of the freeway at the interchange while troopers investigated, per KLAS

What is only claimed

  • The cause of the rollover — not stated by the Highway Patrol in any of the three reports
  • The dead man's identity — not yet released; identification rests with the Clark County coroner

What happens next

The Nevada Highway Patrol's investigation continues. The Clark County coroner will identify the man and determine the cause and manner of death, and the patrol is expected to issue a preliminary report setting out the vehicle's path, the evidence at the scene and any contributing factors it can establish. Anyone who saw the crash on the Flamingo ramp in the early hours of Thursday can contact the Nevada Highway Patrol.
