The crash happened shortly before noon on Thursday, October 15, near Sahara Avenue east of Tenaya Way. Police identified the wrong-way driver as Corazon Blackwell, 58, who was driving a blue 2022 Honda CR-V eastbound in the westbound lanes before it struck a 2025 BMW iX in the centre westbound lane, the Las Vegas Focal reported, also citing the police arrest report.

Both drivers critically injured
Police said data from the Honda's airbag control module put its speed at about 93 mph at impact — more than double the limit. The Honda spun about 360 degrees after the collision. Both Blackwell and the BMW's 39-year-old driver were taken to University Medical Center's trauma centre in critical condition; the BMW driver suffered injuries including lacerations to his liver and spleen, according to police.
Two witnesses told police they had to swerve to avoid the Honda just before the crash. A wheel that broke off the Honda smashed through the windshield of a westbound Hyundai Elantra, whose driver was not injured, and debris damaged several vehicles parked at a nearby dealership, police said.
Charge and next steps
Blackwell was booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center on a felony charge of reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm and remained in hospital on Tuesday, missing a scheduled court appearance, according to the reports. The charge is an allegation and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Police said the crash remains under investigation.
