Three New Jersey men are facing numerous criminal charges following a multi-jurisdictional investigation into an alleged mail-theft and check-fraud operation in Morris County, Prosecutor Robert Carroll announced in a release with Mount Olive Police Chief Michael Cordileone, Chief of Detectives Mark Castellano, Randolph Police Chief Keith Donovan and Roxbury Police Chief Matthew Holland. The arrests were reported by New Jersey Hills, in the West Morris Reporter, and in detail by the Englebrook Independent News, both citing the prosecutor's announcement.
The investigation began in August 2026 after the Mount Olive Police Department received complaints about checks disappearing from residential mailboxes and being cashed without authorisation, prosecutors said. Detectives identified a vehicle believed to be linked to the activity, and on August 18 officers learned the vehicle was in Mount Olive and that Erik C. Mitchell was allegedly attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a bank in the Flanders section of the township. Officers located Aljaquan T. Wilson and Blancsun Altidor inside the vehicle, and all three men were taken into custody. Investigators allegedly found a fraudulent driver's licence with Altidor and a credit card that did not belong to Wilson, and the vehicle was impounded and searched under a warrant.
Prosecutors said the continuing investigation linked the suspects to stolen checks cashed at banks on August 10, August 11 and August 17, 2026, taken from residential mailboxes in Mount Olive, Randolph and Roxbury. Mitchell, 34, of Hackettstown, faces 15 charges, including eight counts of third-degree forgery and conspiracy counts. Wilson, 31, of Newark, faces 12 charges, including theft, forgery and credit-card theft counts. Altidor, 32, of Newark, faces 12 charges, including forgery counts and possession of a false driver's licence, according to the prosecutor's office.
All three defendants were detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings under New Jersey's Criminal Justice Reform Act, prosecutors said. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed the total value of the checks allegedly stolen or cashed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morris County Prosecutor's Office at (973) 285-6200. The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
