HAMILTON, Ohio — Samuel Sey, a conservative Christian commentator who has written for the Christian Post and who defended President Donald Trump's mass deportation plans, is being held in an Ohio jail for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to The Roys Report, in reporting summarised by Black Christian News Network.

Sey was booked into the Butler County Jail, north of Cincinnati, a little after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to jail records cited by The Roys Report. His booking status is listed as 'Hold for ICE.' He has not been charged with a crime, and the reason for his detention is not yet clear. A spokesperson for the Butler County Sheriff's Office did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment, and ICE has not publicly commented on the case, The Roys Report said.

Protestia, which also reported the booking on October 23, said Sey — known online as @SlowToWrite — was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and that the charge description on the booking sheet is that he is on a 'Hold for ICE.' Protestia said it is unclear at this point why he was detained.

Sey was born in Ghana and moved to Canada as a child, and he has lived in Ohio since early 2022, Protestia reported. He previously worked as a community liaison at the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, and his work has been featured on The Daily Wire, the Christian Post and The Blaze, the outlet said.

The detention was first widely reported on Friday, including by Bulwark writer Will Sommer and by Raw Story, which obtained a booking photo from the Butler County Jail. Those reports likewise did not establish a specific immigration charge or legal basis for the hold.

Some supporters speculated on social media that the hold may arise from a paperwork or clerical issue. That explanation is speculation by supporters and has not been confirmed by ICE, the sheriff's office or Sey's representatives in the reporting available. No hearing date was reported.
