A man from Mexico pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Columbus to drug and immigration crimes, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio announced on Wednesday, October 21. Lucas Gonzalez-Bermudez, 29, admitted to conspiring to traffic more than 400 grams of a fentanyl analogue — a crime punishable by at least 10 years and up to life in prison — and also pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States.

According to court documents cited by the U.S. Attorney's Office, between August and September 2025 Gonzalez-Bermudez participated in a narcotics conspiracy involving 400 grams or more of para-fluorofentanyl, and agents discovered the drugs while executing a search warrant at an apartment associated with him. WiseVoter's summary of the plea reported the same quantity, the same August–September 2025 conspiracy window and the same October 20 plea date.

Plea entered October 20; sentencing to come
The guilty plea was entered on October 20 before U.S. District Judge Sarah D. Morrison. Sentencing will be determined by the court at a future hearing, based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. The plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Dominick S. Gerace II and Jeremy Pierczynski, Acting Special Agent in Charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit; Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheila G. Lafferty is prosecuting the case.

A guilty plea is an admission in court, not a claim by investigators: by pleading guilty, Gonzalez-Bermudez admitted the conspiracy and the illegal-reentry charge. What remains open is the sentence — the 10-year figure is the mandatory minimum for the drug-conspiracy plea, and the final term will be set by Judge Morrison at the sentencing hearing.
