Sinchuri was born in Bhutan. His nephew Karna Sinchuri told WKRC Local 12 that the family was forced out of Bhutan in 1992 and spent about 20 years as refugees in Nepal before resettling in different parts of the United States. According to his older brother Bal Sinchuri, the family first settled in Buffalo, New York; Tara later ran a jewelry business in Kansas before moving to Fairfield. He is survived by his wife Puspa and their three children.

The killing fell on Vijayadashami, a major Hindu festival day, WCPO reported. A longtime friend described Sinchuri to the station as generous and active in community events, and said immigrant business owners nearby are now scared for their own safety. "We miss our uncle," Karna Sinchuri told WKRC. A community fundraiser has been set up to help the family with funeral and household expenses.
