A woman was fatally stabbed inside a home in Geneva, Ohio, on Saturday, October 24, and police say officers who forced their way in found a man on top of her and took him into custody at gunpoint, according to a Geneva Police Department press release reviewed by Front Page Detectives. The man in custody is a suspect in the department's account; police have not announced charges against him, and he has not been convicted of anything.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Austin Road for a report of a man cutting himself, the department said. When they arrived, they could hear a commotion inside, and after they announced themselves they heard a woman screaming. “They asked her to open the door, to which she replied she could not, and that her assailant was on top of her,” the department said.

Officers forced their way into the home and found the man on top of the woman, “assaulting her with what appeared to be a knife,” the release states. They ordered him at gunpoint to drop the weapon, which he did before being taken into custody. No officers fired their weapons during the incident, the department said. A second report of the arrest was also published on Monday, October 26, summarising the police account that a man was arrested Saturday in connection with the fatal stabbing.
