The patrol identified the driver as Thomas A. Brown, 41, of Bucyrus. He was driving a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia northbound on South State Street near Gurley Avenue at about 10:40 a.m. and died at the scene. The patrol said he was not wearing a safety belt.
According to the patrol's preliminary investigation, the Freightliner first struck a parked 2023 Jeep Cherokee, a 2012 Dodge Caravan and a 2006 BMW 520 on the east side of the roadway. It then travelled off the right side of the road, struck the poles, the embankment and the house, and overturned.
No injuries were reported involving anyone in the house, the patrol said. The crash remains under investigation by the patrol's Marion post, and the patrol has not announced a cause.
The Marion Police Department, Marion Fire Department, the Marion County Coroner's Office and FirstEnergy's Ohio Edison were among the agencies that assisted at the scene, according to the patrol.
