A robbery crew used a stolen minivan as a battering ram against a Circle K gas station in Stow, Ohio, in the early hours of Monday, November 2 — and fled when the clerk on duty opened fire. Stow police said officers were sent to the store at 750 East Steels Corners Road at about 3:30 a.m. for a robbery in progress, after the suspects arrived in two minivans that had both been reported stolen out of Cleveland.

According to police, the driver of one van crashed into the front of the building several times, shattering the glass entryway. Several suspects then climbed out and approached the store on foot. They never got inside.
The clerk inside was armed and, police said, fired seven shots at the approaching group. Bullets struck a gas pump, one of the suspects' vans and a post holding up the canopy over the pumps, and the group scattered. Police said they do not know whether any of the suspects who got away were wounded, and no injuries were confirmed in the police account. Stow dispatch recordings from the first minutes of the call, reviewed separately, describe the employee firing shots, callers reporting a shooting, and suspects running from the store toward nearby businesses.

One man caught across the city line
One suspect ran from the scene on foot and was caught near Steels Corners Road and Wyoga Lake Boulevard, just over the city line in Cuyahoga Falls. At least three others piled into the second minivan and drove off. The white minivan used to ram the store was abandoned in the Circle K parking lot.
Police are asking the public to watch for the getaway van: a brown 1997 Chrysler Town & Country with Ohio license plate GSR7033. Its rear window glass is gone and has been replaced with plastic. It was last seen driving west on Steels Corners Road toward State Route 8, the freeway that runs south from Stow toward Akron.
Parolee held on $100,000 cash bond
The man arrested was identified by police as Peirion D. Jackson. He was first booked into the Stow City Jail and then arraigned in Stow Municipal Court, where Magistrate Clark set bond at $100,000 cash. Jackson is now being held in the Summit County Jail.
Police said Jackson is charged with robbery, a second-degree felony in Ohio, along with receiving stolen property and vandalism, both fourth-degree felonies. Police also said he is on parole for a prior robbery and is associated with the Heartless Felons gang — a police characterisation that is an allegation, not a court finding. Jackson, like every defendant, is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, and the charges will now move through the Summit County court process.
Why ram-raids worry overnight businesses
Vehicle-ramming break-ins — sometimes called ram-raids — have become a recurring pattern for overnight convenience stores and gas stations across northeast Ohio: a stolen vehicle is used to smash through a storefront in seconds, before staff or police can respond, and a second stolen vehicle waits as the getaway car. That is the pattern police describe here, with both vans reported stolen from Cleveland, roughly 35 miles northwest of Stow. The case also turns on an armed overnight clerk: Ohio law allows a person to use force in self-defence, but whether any shooting is legally justified is assessed case by case by prosecutors — police in Stow have announced no charge against the clerk, and their account describes his shots as the moment the attack broke off.
Steels Corners Road is one of Stow's main retail corridors, lined with the gas stations, coffee shops and hotels that serve State Route 8 traffic through Summit County — the kind of overnight highway-corridor businesses where many Punjabi and other immigrant readers of this site work night shifts across the United States. No customers were reported hurt, and the store's shattered entryway was the main damage reported.
What happens next
Stow detectives are still working the case and are hunting at least three more suspects. Anyone with information can call the Stow Police Department at 330-689-5700 and mention case number CR26-22134.
Detectives are still working to identify the suspects who escaped in the brown Town & Country van, and police said it is not yet known whether any of them were hit by the clerk's gunfire. Jackson's case will proceed from municipal court toward a possible grand-jury review in Summit County, which handles felony indictments. Awaaz Punjab will follow the case if further arrests or court filings are announced.
