A 23-year-old Swanton man is in jail after police say a shot was fired on North Main Street on Sunday night and a bullet struck a vehicle with people inside it. Landon Presnell, 23, of Swanton was arrested a short time after the shooting and taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, the Village of Swanton Police Department said in a release dated Monday, November 2. No one in the vehicle was injured.

What police say happened

At approximately 8:28 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Swanton Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of North Main Street in the Village of Swanton, in Fulton County, northwest Ohio. During the investigation, officers identified Presnell as the individual suspected of discharging a firearm and striking the occupied vehicle, according to the department's release, issued by Police Chief John Trejo.

Police said the suspect fled the scene following the incident. Toledo's 13abc (WTVG), reporting his arrest early on Tuesday, November 3, described Presnell as the man at the centre of a shelter-in-place alert in Swanton — the warning issued while officers searched for him. He was located a short time later by law enforcement and taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Who helped make the arrest

The Swanton Police Department was assisted by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, the Fulton County Special Response Team, the Delta Police Department and Swanton Fire and Rescue, according to the release. Presnell was transported to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio (CCNO), the regional jail that serves counties in northwest Ohio, where he was incarcerated.

What police have — and have not — said

Authorities have determined that there are no additional suspects involved in this incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, the department said. The November 2 release did not list the specific charges Presnell faces, did not describe a motive, and did not say how many shots were fired beyond the one that struck the vehicle. All charges in the case are allegations, and Presnell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The allegation, in plain terms

Police allege that Presnell fired a gun on a residential main street on a Sunday night and hit a car that had people in it. Firing into an occupied vehicle is treated as a serious violent allegation in Ohio even when — as here — nobody is physically hurt, which is why the response drew a special response team and a shelter-in-place alert.

The place

Swanton is a village of roughly 3,700 people in Fulton County, about 15 miles west of Toledo on the US-20 corridor. North Main Street is its central residential and commercial spine — the kind of street where a single gunshot on a Sunday evening is heard in dozens of homes, which is part of why the search that followed moved quickly and publicly.

What happens next

The incident remains under investigation by the Swanton Police Department, which said additional information will be released as it becomes available. Presnell remains held at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio; his first court appearance and the formal filing of charges are the next expected steps, and neither had been announced in the department's release or in 13abc's reporting as of early Tuesday.
