The accident happened at about 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21. Bell was standing on the trailer bed while pipe was being moved from the semitrailer to a forklift when the driver pulled the truck forward, the Highway Patrol said. Bell lost his footing, fell and struck his head on the trailer. He died from his injuries.

Authorities have not released further details. The driver has not been identified in the reports, and officials have not said whether any citations or a workplace-safety review will follow. J&I Manufacturing had not publicly commented in the reports available on Monday.

A plant that builds truck beds

J&I Manufacturing builds truck beds and truck bodies used in farming, ranching and the oil industry, and also sells processed steel products and supplies for agricultural and ranching customers. Madill is a small city in Marshall County in southern Oklahoma, near the Texas border — a region where many Punjabi truckers also run freight, which is why this loading-yard death has drawn wide attention in trucking circles, with CDLLife and other trade outlets carrying the story on Monday.

Bell's full name was Jamie Aubrey Bell. His family received visitors on Monday, October 26, at Watts Funeral Home in Madill, and a funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, at First Baptist Church in Madill, according to his obituary. He is remembered as a husband, father and grandfather.

A safety reminder for loading work

Safety guidance for yards and docks is blunt on this point: never stand on a trailer bed while a vehicle can move, and make sure the driver knows loading is finished — with the parking brake set and clear communication — before anyone climbs on or off a trailer. (General safety guidance, not a finding about this case.)
