According to public records cited by prosecutors, Oklahoma City police stopped a vehicle on February 19, 2026, as part of an investigation into a robbery that had occurred earlier that day. Officers detected the odor of marijuana and detained all the occupants, including Walton, who was seated in the rear passenger area behind the driver's seat. Underneath the driver's seat, directly in front of Walton, officers recovered a handgun fitted with a machinegun conversion device (MCD), commonly known as a "switch." Investigators determined the handgun belonged to Walton.

Federal prosecutors say that when installed, an MCD converts a semiautomatic weapon into a fully automatic machinegun, and possession of such devices violates federal law.

A federal grand jury charged Walton on March 3, 2026, with unlawful possession of a machinegun. He pleaded guilty on July 15, 2026, admitting that he knowingly possessed a handgun modified with an MCD, the Justice Department said. Oklahoma City's News 9 reported the same timeline and sentence from the federal announcement.
