A red Hyundai reported stolen out of Philadelphia rammed a Bensalem Township police vehicle, struck a second car carrying an uninvolved member of the public, and then crashed through the front of a 7-Eleven convenience store in Bensalem, Bucks County, on Thursday afternoon, October 29, 2026, according to Bensalem Township Police. Five people who had been inside the Hyundai were located and, in evening television reports, were described as being in custody. Remarkably, police said no one was injured — including two employees who were inside the store when the car came through the building.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. at the 7-Eleven at 1644 Street Road, at the intersection with Brookwood Drive, in the 1600 block of Street Road — one of Bensalem's busiest commercial stretches, just northeast of Philadelphia. Surveillance video captured the moment the car barrelled into the store, smashing through the wall and leaving a trail of destruction inside, 6abc Action News reported. A tow truck removed the car, which had been lodged in the building, at around 4 p.m., CBS Philadelphia's Chopper 3 footage showed.

A plate reader spotted the stolen car half an hour earlier

According to FOX 29 Philadelphia, the Hyundai had been reported stolen in Philadelphia three days earlier. Police were first alerted to the vehicle at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, when a license plate reader camera at Street Road and Humeville Road flagged it. Officers moved in and tried to stop the car in the 1600 block of Street Road.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Malcolm told 6abc that officers tried to box the vehicle in to prevent a pursuit. Instead, police say, the driver rammed a Bensalem police cruiser and then struck another vehicle occupied by an uninvolved member of the public before speeding away at a high rate of speed. Moments later the driver lost control and drove into the 7-Eleven. Police have not said which of the two collisions happened first in sequence, and the department's first statement did not describe a pursuit — it said only that the driver fled after the attempted stop and crashed moments later.

Three ran from the wreck — drones helped find everyone

Three people ran from the car on foot immediately after the crash, Bensalem Township Police said. Patrol officers and detectives, backed by multiple police drones, searched the surrounding streets and yards and located a total of five people who had been inside the vehicle at some point. At least one person was captured in a nearby yard, in an arrest neighbours caught on video, according to 6abc. By Thursday evening, FOX 29 reported that all five were in custody, and 6abc reported five arrests. Both stations reported that at least some of those taken into custody are minors — 6abc said at least two — so no names have been released, and Awaaz Punjab is not naming anyone in this story.

In its first statement on Thursday afternoon, the police department said only that all five occupants had been located, that the investigation was active, and that no further information would be released at that time. The department did not initially announce arrest decisions or charges, did not say who had been driving, and did not explain how the car came to be stolen in Philadelphia. Those details remained unannounced in the reports available when this story was prepared, and the stolen-car allegation should not be read as proof that every occupant knew the car had been reported stolen.

Two employees were inside

FOX 29 reported that two employees were inside the 7-Eleven when the Hyundai came crashing through the building — and that neither was hurt. Construction crews spent Thursday evening cleaning up debris and boarding up the store.

Store shut for weeks; what happens next

The damage is extensive enough that the store is expected to remain closed for at least several weeks, FOX 29 reported from the scene, where crews worked into the evening to clean up and board up the business. For a township of Bensalem's size, a Street Road convenience store is a daily stop for fuel, food and lottery tickets, and its closure — on top of a Thursday-afternoon police scene that shut down attention around the Street Road and Brookwood Drive intersection — is the most visible local impact of the crash. A witness who works next door at John's Barbershop described the moments after the impact to FOX 29.

What happens next is in the hands of the Bensalem Township Police investigation, which the department calls active. The open questions are the ones police have not yet answered publicly: who was driving, what charges each of the five people in custody will face, and how the Hyundai was stolen in Philadelphia three days before it was flagged by a plate reader in Bensalem. Anyone with information can call Bensalem Police at (215) 633-3719 or submit a tip through the department's Crimewatch page. Awaaz Punjab will update this story when police release names, charges or a reopening date for the store.
