INDIANA, Pennsylvania — Sentencing hearings were held in Indiana County Court, including one for a woman serving time in connection with the killing of Hayden Gareffa, WDAD reported on Saturday, October 24. Court documents say 22-year-old Summer Settlemyer pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated harassment by a prisoner for an incident on May 26 of this year.

Charges of aggravated assault, assault by a prisoner and obstruction of justice were not prosecuted as part of the plea agreement, WDAD reported. Settlemyer was ordered to serve six months to two years in a state correctional institution.
In its preview of the hearing a day earlier, WDAD reported, again citing court documents, that Settlemyer — described as a Johnstown woman — was due in court for a plea and sentencing hearing on charges that also included aggravated assault and assaulting a prison facility employee over the same May 26 incident. That earlier report matches the charge list and date in Saturday's sentencing report.

Settlemyer was one of five people who killed Gareffa after kidnapping him in October 2022, WDAD reported. She was ordered to serve life in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to a charge of murder in that case.
