A 24-year-old store worker was shot three times outside a West Philadelphia business on Monday night after a dispute inside the store escalated, Philadelphia police said, in reporting carried by CBS News Philadelphia and NBC10 Philadelphia.
Officers were sent to the 4800 block of Spruce Street a little after 7 p.m. Police Inspector D.F. Pace told CBS Philadelphia that a man had first visited the business at about 6:15 p.m. and left, then returned roughly 40 minutes later and became involved in a heated argument with a female employee. NBC10 identified the business as the Quick and Quality Breakfast & Deli, near 49th and Spruce streets, and described the employee in the argument as the cashier.
Police said the 24-year-old worker and at least one coworker tried to calm the man down without success. Pace said the man allegedly directed the worker to step outside, and when he did, the man pulled a gun and opened fire. Both outlets reported the worker was hit three times — in the abdomen, a thigh and the back — and CBS Philadelphia said he was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
Investigators collected four spent shell casings at the scene, and police said the shooter kept firing as he fled. Pace said surveillance cameras recorded most, if not all, of what happened. No arrest has been announced and the gunman has not been identified. Police have asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Philadelphia Police Department. The account above is the police version of events; the allegations have not been tested in court.
