Pennsylvania has won a $63.2 million manufacturing investment — yaani about $6.32 crore — from SendCutSend, Inc., which will open its first facility in the Commonwealth at Pittston in Luzerne County and create 309 new jobs over the next three years, Governor Josh Shapiro announced, according to the state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

SendCutSend makes custom computer numerical control (CNC), laser-cut metal and wood products. DCED said the company will lease and improve roughly 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space for a new CNC machining and laser cutting operation at 535 Research Drive in Pittston. The developer Mericle, which owns the building in the CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park East, lists the building at 170,500 square feet and confirmed the lease at the same address.

Pennsylvania beat Ohio — and is paying $3 million toward the deal

Pennsylvania successfully competed against Ohio to win the expansion, DCED said. The Commonwealth is investing $3 million — yaani $30 lakh — in the project, through a Pennsylvania First grant proposal from DCED, and the company has also been encouraged to apply for the Manufacturing Tax Credit program and the Qualified Manufacturing Innovation and Reinvestment Deduction program for further savings, IMPO reported.

"Pennsylvania is competing with other states and winning. With SendCutSend's decision to open their first facility in the Commonwealth, hundreds of Pennsylvanians throughout Luzerne County will now have the opportunity to secure a good paying job — all while our manufacturing industry gets another boost," Governor Shapiro said.

"We're hiring and machines are landing"

"Our customers need parts fast, so we move fast, and Pennsylvania gets that. Pittston brings one-day shipping to more of our Northeast customers," said Jim Belosic, founder and CEO of SendCutSend. "We're hiring and machines are landing. Big thanks to Gov. Shapiro, PA DCED Secretary Rick Siger, and their teams for making this process seamless."

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Reno, Nevada, SendCutSend currently operates manufacturing locations in Reno; Paris, Kentucky; and Arlington, Texas, IMPO reported, and in May the company set aside more than $250 million to expand existing facilities and open new hubs across the US. DCED said the Shapiro administration has now competed for and won over $43 billion in private-sector investment creating nearly 29,000 jobs since taking office — that is the administration's own tally.

What is solid

  • Governor Shapiro announced a $63.2 million SendCutSend investment for a first Pennsylvania facility in Pittston, Luzerne County, creating 309 jobs over three years, with a $3 million state grant proposal.
  • The site is 535 Research Drive in Pittston; Pennsylvania competed against Ohio for the project, according to DCED.
  • SendCutSend's CEO Jim Belosic confirmed hiring is under way and machines are being installed.

What is only claimed

  • DCED describes roughly 200,000 square feet of space to be leased and improved, while building owner Mericle lists the building itself at 170,500 square feet — the two figures describe the project differently.
  • The 'over $43 billion invested and nearly 29,000 jobs' figure is the Shapiro administration's own tally of wins since taking office, not an independently audited total.
