A man wanted on an attempted-murder charge out of Virginia was still at large on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after he fled a traffic stop in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, led two police departments on a pursuit out of the city, and ran from his vehicle on Highway 22 near U.S. 501, the Myrtle Beach Police Department said. Police identified the man as Dorian Evans and said officers searched for him for several hours on Friday night without finding him.

The attempted-murder charge is a Virginia warrant allegation: Evans has not been convicted of it, and the Myrtle Beach department's statement gave no details of the Virginia case behind the warrant.
How the pursuit unfolded
Officers located the wanted man in a vehicle just after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30, in the area of North Kings Highway and 1st Avenue South, according to the department. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled, police said.
Myrtle Beach officers pursued the vehicle northbound out of the city and requested assistance from the Horry County Police Department. Officers from both departments continued the pursuit until it ended on Highway 22 near Highway 501, where Evans ran from the car, according to the department.
A highway shut, and a CodeRED warning to stay away
As the search spread, Highway 22 was shut down in both directions at U.S. 501 — with westbound traffic rerouted at Highway 319 — while officers worked the active investigation, and drivers were asked to avoid the area. WMBF reported that a CodeRED alert was sent to residents within about four miles of Highway 22 between Highway 319 and Highway 501, warning of an armed and dangerous suspect and urging people not to approach him. Conway police and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) also joined the response, according to local reporting. All roadways were later reopened, but police said the investigation remained active.

Myrtle Beach and Horry County officers searched for Evans for several hours after he ran from the vehicle, but he was not located that night, police said — and Saturday's police update said he remained at large.
Police have named the suspect and the Virginia charge he is wanted on, and confirmed the pursuit, the highway closure and the hours-long search. The department's statement did not say whether anyone else was in the vehicle, whether anyone was injured, or whether any charges beyond the Virginia warrant are expected.
Why Highway 22 and U.S. 501 matter
Highway 22 — the Veterans Highway — is one of the main corridors carrying traffic between the Myrtle Beach coast and U.S. 501, the primary route inland toward Conway and the interstates. Closing it in both directions on a Friday evening, at the start of a Halloween weekend in one of the East Coast's busiest resort cities, pushed traffic onto smaller local roads while the search went on around it.
What happens next
Evans remains wanted on the Virginia attempted-murder warrant, and the search is now a waiting game: the investigation is still active, the highways have reopened, and the next development will be either a sighting, a tip, or a surrender. Police have described the suspect in their alert as armed and dangerous, and the standing advice to residents in the Highway 22 corridor is the one in the CodeRED message — do not approach him; call the police instead.
