The patrol said traffic was stopped in a construction zone near mile marker 48 when a Buick Enclave driven by a 27-year-old woman from Lead was unable to stop in time and struck a Chevrolet Equinox, pushing it into a GMC Acadia and then a Hyundai Santa Fe.
Three occupants of the Chevrolet — a 29-year-old woman from Whitewood and women aged 27 and 30 from Newell — suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The Buick and GMC drivers had minor injuries, and the 17-year-old Hyundai driver was not hurt, the patrol said.
