Fiery Crash on SH 71 Near Garfield Sends Two to Hospital, Eastbound Lanes Closed

Austin-Travis County EMS medics took two people to local hospitals after a Monday morning crash on State Highway 71 near Garfield, Texas, which shut all eastbound lanes for hours before the road reopened.

Two people were taken to local hospitals after a fiery crash on Monday morning, October 26, on State Highway 71 near Garfield, Texas, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

The crash happened near Garfield, roughly five miles east of Del Valle. The Travis County Sheriff's Office was on scene near Caldwell Lane, and all eastbound lanes were closed early Monday, around 5:45 a.m., KVUE reported.

Texas Department of Transportation incident data put the collision at about 5:43 a.m. east of State Highway 130, with detours in place for passenger and commercial traffic. The highway later reopened on Monday morning after clearance work.

Officials had not released the cause of the crash or full vehicle details in the reports reviewed. Drivers through Travis County were advised to allow extra time while crews worked at the scene.
