Officers responded at about 7:15 p.m. to a pin-in crash at 403 North Poplar Avenue. The vehicle hit the northwest corner of the building and caused damage to its structure, according to Tyler police.

The driver was freed from the vehicle and taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Tyler Police Sgt. Adam Riggle told CBS19 the driver had experienced a medical emergency before the collision — a preliminary account, not a completed investigative finding, and the nature of the emergency has not been established.

The City of Tyler Streets Department closed part of the road, between North Beckham Avenue and East Line Street, because of debris in the roadway and the risk that the damaged building could collapse, KTBB and KETK reported.

Police had not said whether anyone was inside the building at the time, and no reopening time had been confirmed while the building's structural safety was still being assessed.
