According to court records and evidence presented at trial, on October 22, 2025, McCloud and Takaree Alexander Fields, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, each wearing a mask and armed with a handgun, approached a food delivery driver in Newport News. They pointed their firearms at the driver and ordered him to drop everything, empty his pockets and remove his shoes, and took the food he was delivering and his shoes, money and car key fob.

McCloud took the victim's car while Fields fled in a vehicle he had stolen from his mother, prosecutors said. After the victim reported the crime, Newport News Police spotted the victim's vehicle and attempted a traffic stop; McCloud fled, crashed the vehicle and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. The following day, Henrico County Police located Fields, who fled at high speed, crashed in a convenience-store parking lot and ran toward a wooded area before officers apprehended him nearby.

Fields pleaded guilty on October 5, 2026, to interference with interstate commerce by robbery, threats and violence, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, according to the US Attorney's Office, as reported by RRSpin.

Both men face a mandatory minimum penalty of seven years and up to life in prison. Fields is scheduled to be sentenced on January 7, 2027, and McCloud on January 20, 2027.
