SEATTLE, Wash. — People travelling to and through the greater Puget Sound region over the Halloween weekend, October 30 to November 2, should plan ahead for two major construction projects that will require full closures of northbound Interstate 5 in Seattle and southbound I-405 in Bothell, the Washington State Department of Transportation said.

Crews working for WSDOT will close all lanes of northbound I-5 from I-90 to Northeast 45th Street from 11:59 p.m. Friday, October 30, to 5 a.m. Monday, November 2. Adjacent ramps and lanes will close as early as 9 p.m. Friday, October 30, and the express lanes will remain northbound only until normal operations return at 5 a.m. Monday, November 2, WSDOT said.

During the full closure, crews will remove the Revive I-5: Ship Canal Bridge Preservation project work zone in the two right northbound lanes of the bridge. WSDOT said some remaining work and the removal of the work zone require dry conditions, and if the weather does not cooperate, the long-term lane reductions will remain in place until crews have a suitable weekend to complete the work.

WSDOT will also close all lanes of southbound I-405 from State Route 527 to SR 522 in Bothell starting at 10 p.m. Friday, October 30, to 4 a.m. Monday, November 2, with a detour in place and adjacent ramps also closing. During that closure, crews will remove a portion of the pedestrian bridge at the Canyon Park Park and Ride as part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project. The following weekend, November 6–9, crews plan to close all lanes of northbound I-405 from SR 522 to SR 527 to remove the portion of the pedestrian bridge over the northbound lanes, WSDOT said. The City of Bothell's notice likewise says the southbound I-405 closures run over the weekends of October 30 and into early November, with region-wide traffic impacts expected.

The pedestrian bridge at the Canyon Park Park and Ride will close at 12:01 a.m. Friday, October 30, and will remain closed until a new bridge opens in 2028, WSDOT said. Community Transit says the southbound ST 532 and ST 535 routes will use a temporary stop at Bay B inside the park and ride during the work. With major closures on both main north–south routes through the Puget Sound area, WSDOT encouraged travellers to find an alternate route, carpool, leave early or stay late, allow more travel time, or use transit or a bike, and said real-time information is available on the WSDOT mobile app and Travel Center Map.
