Three adults have been arrested in Tacoma, Washington, in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenage boy on Commerce Street, the Tacoma Police Department said in an investigation update on October 20, 2026. Detectives developed probable cause to arrest two adult males and one adult female, police said. On October 19, one man was arrested in east Tacoma, while the second man and the woman were arrested in Yelm, Washington. All three were booked into the Pierce County Jail for murder in the first degree. Police have not released the suspects' names.
The shooting happened in the early hours of Sunday, October 18. At 2:23 a.m., Tacoma officers were dispatched to the area of 1100 Commerce Street after reports of shots being fired, the department's original media release said. Officers found a juvenile male with life-threatening gunshot wounds and immediately began lifesaving measures; Tacoma Fire Department personnel then pronounced the boy dead at the scene. In line with the protection owed to a minor victim, Awaaz Punjab is not naming or describing the boy beyond his age group and city. Detectives and crime scene technicians took over the investigation as a homicide.
The Seattle Focal, reporting independently on Tuesday, confirmed the same sequence: three adults arrested, one man taken into custody in Tacoma on Monday evening and a man and a woman arrested in Yelm, with officers called to Commerce Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday and the boy dying despite lifesaving efforts. Both the police release and the Focal note that police have not said what led to the shooting.
Tacoma police say the case remains an active investigation and have asked anyone with information to call 911. No motive, weapon details or court dates had been released as of the October 20 update. The three suspects are presumed innocent unless proved guilty in court.
