During the drive, the man allegedly pulled over, told the victim to get out of the car and punched him in the head repeatedly. A woman also pulled up and allegedly began hitting and kicking the victim, who told deputies that one of the suspects also attempted to choke him. The allegations have not been tested in court.

The man then drove off in the victim's SUV, a 2001 Toyota Highlander, while the woman left in her own vehicle, described by police as a dark blue or black 2002 to 2004 Honda CR-V. The sheriff's office investigated with assistance from the Everson Police Department, under case number 26A36654.
