YAKIMA COUNTY, Washington — A 20-year-old Yakima woman was arrested after she allegedly chased a Yakima County sheriff's deputy and rammed the deputy's patrol cruiser multiple times during an early-morning incident, the Yakima County Sheriff's Office said.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputy realised the collisions from behind were intentional, activated her emergency lights and called for backup, but the other driver kept striking the cruiser. One hit was hard enough to slide the cruiser into the side of the Yakima River Bridge, leaving the patrol car partially disabled with disabling damage, local reports said.

The suspect then allegedly made a U-turn and sped away. Moxee Police and other deputies later located her vehicle in the Terrace Heights area, where she was boxed in and taken into custody. Authorities allege she resisted arrest and struck one of the arresting officers in the face before being booked into the Yakima County Jail. Authorities said the deputy escaped serious injury.

The sheriff's office said it is asking prosecutors to pursue four counts of first-degree assault, felony hit-and-run with injury, first-degree malicious mischief, third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. The Yakima County Sheriff's Office is investigating with assistance from the Yakama Nation Tribal Police and the Moxee Police Department. The allegations have not been proven in court, and the woman is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
