West Bengal Police on Friday arrested two men for allegedly beating a man to death in Asansol over an alleged extramarital affair, IANS reported. The deceased was identified as Ashok Kumar Singh, alias Vicky.
According to his family, Vicky lived in Delhi with his wife and two minor children and occasionally stayed in a quarter in the Hindustan Cables area under the Rupnarayanpur outpost of Salanpur in Asansol. Locals said there had been unrest in the area over Vicky's alleged closeness to a married woman.
On Thursday evening, Vicky went to the house of a man named Montu Yadav. Some people claimed Vicky was having an extramarital affair with Montu's wife — an allegation that has not been established. Montu returned home from work after learning Vicky was there, and an argument and fight followed. It is alleged that Montu, along with some acquaintances, locked Vicky inside the house and beat him severely.
The victim's father claimed his son was beaten on a false charge and in a planned manner. Locals rescued Vicky in a bloodied state and took him to a local hospital with serious injuries; as his condition deteriorated, doctors advised shifting him to Asansol District Hospital, but he died on the way, police said.
Two produced in Asansol court, search on for remaining accused
Based on the complaint lodged by Vicky's family, police arrested Surendra Yadav and Deepak Yadav on charges of murder. The two, who are known to Montu, were produced before the Asansol court on Friday and taken into custody. Rupnarayanpur outpost police have started a search for the remaining accused, and the woman with whom Vicky allegedly had a relationship has been detained for investigation, IANS reported.
