Canning, October 24 — A CPI(M) party office in Canning, in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, was vandalised on Saturday, party workers said, triggering a fresh political row in the state. The office is located in the Taldi area, which falls under the Canning police station.

When party workers reached the office, they found it ransacked. Televisions, cupboards, switchboards, tables and chairs had been vandalised, four fans were taken away, the party flag was torn to pieces and its stand was broken and thrown outside the office.
The Left alleged that miscreants affiliated with the RSS and the BJP were involved in the vandalism, an allegation that both the BJP and the RSS denied. The incident comes amid allegations of attacks on several CPI(M) party offices in recent days and on Left Front book stalls during the Durga Puja festivities.

CPI(M) area committee member Priyabrata Ghosh said the party had been receiving threats in the preceding days. "RSS boys were roaming around saying that they would break our party office. If the police investigate, all the correct information will be recovered," he said.
BJP leader Sanjay Naik rejected the allegation, saying the CPI(M) had vandalised its own party office and was blaming others to come into the limelight. Police have registered a complaint at Canning police station and started investigating the incident. The allegations remain unverified at this stage.
