Police said investigators examined the call records of the deceased's mobile phone and CCTV footage from a liquor shop in Khoshaspur, which led them to the accused, identified as Nasiruddin Sheikh alias Mister, 32. He was arrested on Saturday night and produced before the Jangipur Sub-district Court on Sunday. Police have applied for seven days' custody of the accused.
According to the police account reported by both outlets, the two men met while working in Odisha and were in a relationship, and the victim had been trying to end it, which police say led to disputes between them. Police allege the accused contacted the victim again on Thursday after learning he had returned to the village. These are police allegations; the accused has not been convicted, and the investigation is continuing.
