According to the reports, the attack took place while people in the locality were busy with idol immersion on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami. Ghosh's brother alleged that Ghosh was alone at home when the attackers entered the house. Senior district police officials reached the spot on Wednesday night, and acute tension prevailed in the area.
Ghosh's family members alleged that local miscreants associated with the Trinamool Congress were responsible for the killing because he was associated with the BJP. His brother alleged that Ghosh had been receiving threats for a long time over his BJP association and had been asked to leave the locality, but did not leave. These are the family's allegations, which police have not established.
The local Trinamool Congress leadership has denied the family's allegations, the reports said. Police said the reason for the murder and those involved were being investigated, and the one detained person was being questioned. No motive has been officially established.
