According to the police complaint, the woman, a housewife who is not a local resident, had come to Subhasgram with her husband on October 30 to visit a relative. The locality falls in Ward No. 21 of the Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality. At around 1:30 a.m. on the intervening night of October 30 and 31, the couple were walking to another person's house in the same locality when, as per the complaint, five young men followed them and blocked their path.

The complaint alleges that the five men severely beat the husband, threatened the woman with a knife when she screamed for help, and dragged her into a nearby empty room, where one of the accused allegedly raped her while the others restrained her. The couple were also allegedly threatened not to approach the police or tell anyone about the incident. All of these details are allegations recorded in the police complaint and have not been proved in court.

After the incident, the couple took shelter for the night at another local house. On Saturday, October 31, they filed a formal complaint at Sonarpur Police Station, where police registered an FIR and began an investigation. One accused was arrested on Sunday morning, while the search for the remaining four, including the prime accused, is continuing, IANS reported.

Tension prevails in the area, with local residents questioning why the other four accused have not yet been caught. Police have not named the arrested person in the reports available so far, and further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
