Missiles struck Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday, and Kyiv authorities have now given the toll that was missing from the first reports: the strikes wounded 15 people in the capital, eight of whom needed hospitalisation, Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitschko said, according to AFP and Reuters reporting. Klitschko said the strikes damaged metro infrastructure at the Pivdenny Bridge over the Dnipro River, and officials said traffic across the bridge had been restricted, Reuters reported. Ukraine's Air Force had warned in the early hours of more ballistic missiles toward Kyiv and told residents to stay in shelters.

The overnight wave followed a separate Russian attack on Kyiv on Wednesday evening that wounded six people, Kyiv authorities said. Elsewhere in Ukraine, a Russian strike killed a woman and injured four other people in the Kharkiv region in the northeast, Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on Telegram, and a drone hit energy infrastructure in the Kremenchuk area of the Poltava region, a local official said on Telegram, without giving details, Reuters reported.

In Russia, Moscow's mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that 630 drones were sent toward the capital region during the night, that most were downed at long range, and that two people were wounded near Moscow, Reuters reported. In Lipetsk, some 400 km (250 miles) south of Moscow, a man was injured as drones hit apartment buildings and a medical facility, Governor Igor Artamonov said on Telegram — damage Awaaz Punjab reported in its first overnight story.

The exchange came hours after US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg, after talks with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Oslo. The Kremlin said Russia was 'in principle' ready to resume trilateral talks with Ukraine and the United States in mid-November, while warning there was little 'substance' in the Ukrainian and European proposals Witkoff brought, AFP and Reuters reported — diplomacy Awaaz Punjab covered on Wednesday.
