The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the successful flight-test of the quasi-ballistic missile 'Pralay' from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha at around 1110 hrs on November 5, 2026, the Ministry of Defence said in a release issued through the Press Information Bureau (PIB) at 7:47 p.m. on Thursday. All the test objectives were fully met, as confirmed by test data captured by various range instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur.

This was a new development in the same trial series, not a repeat of the earlier report: on November 3, Pralay was launched from Launch Complex-3 at Chandipur and engaged two simulated targets about 500 kilometres away, a test Awaaz Punjab reported on November 4, noting at the time that no induction date had been announced and further user trials were expected first. Thursday's test was conducted in the presence of senior DRDO officials, representatives from industry and the Defence Forces, as part of user evaluation trials, the ministry said.

With this successful test, the induction of the system has become imminent, the Defence Ministry stated — the first time the ministry has used that formulation for Pralay in this series. Sambad English, reporting the same ministry statement, also said the flight-test was conducted as part of user evaluation trials and that all designated mission objectives were met.

Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, along with other DRDO laboratories, has indigenously developed the missile, and Bharat Dynamics Limited, one of its Development-cum-Production-Partners, has produced the system, the ministry said.

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh complimented DRDO, the Defence Forces and industry partners on the successful flight-test, and stated that the missile equipped with advanced technologies will further enhance the technological capabilities and operational preparedness of the military against emerging threats, the release said. Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also congratulated the teams associated with the test. The Daily Jagran, reporting Rajnath Singh's post on X, described Pralay as a solid-propellant, short-range quasi-ballistic missile designed for high-precision strikes within 150 km to 500 km, capable of carrying conventional warheads.

What changes now

The November 3 test proved range and targeting; the November 5 user evaluation test is the step the Defence Ministry itself now links to induction becoming 'imminent'. No formal induction date has been announced yet.
