The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises on Thursday, November 5, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. to run industry-oriented skill training for young people at MSME Technology Centres across the country, the ministry said in a statement issued through the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner in the Ministry of MSME. It will initially be valid for three years and will be implemented at 15 MSME Technology Centres across India, IANS reported.

Under the partnership, training programmes compliant with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) will be run in electronics, mobile phones, home appliances, installation, servicing and repair, using state-of-the-art facilities at the identified Technology Centres. Samsung will provide specialised training, Training of Trainers, technical support and continuing handholding to ensure quality, the ministry said.

The programme will initially target 1,600 trainees in the first year, with numbers expected to rise in later years. Trainees will get hands-on practical training, industry exposure, career counselling, internships and placement facilitation. Successful trainees will be offered a three-month internship with a stipend of Rs 12,000 a month, paid through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The ministry said the aim is to enhance employment and self-employment opportunities for youth by aligning training with what industry actually needs, rather than classroom-only instruction.

What happens next

Training under the MoU will be rolled out through the 15 identified MSME Technology Centres, starting with 1,600 trainees in the first year and scaling up in subsequent years of the three-year agreement.
