Joshi said India's installed solar capacity has grown from 3 GW in 2014 to 172 GW today — a nearly 57-fold increase in just over a decade.

He said the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana rooftop solar scheme has become a mass movement, with roughly one lakh rooftop installations being completed every six days, helping households cut their electricity bills.

The manufacturing build-out means India can now produce solar modules at a scale well beyond its own annual installations, a shift from a decade ago when most panels were imported. Officials said the growth also covers progress in wind energy, battery storage and green hydrogen, though the government has not announced any new scheme alongside the milestone figures.
