The Kerala High Court on Friday (November 6) granted regular bail to all four accused in the Mini Cooper crash case that claimed the lives of three youngsters near Nedumbassery, Kochi, Live Law reported, citing the order of Dr Justice Kauser Edappagath [2026 LiveLaw (Ker) 617]. The court ordered that the prime accused, Suhail Sajeev, who allegedly drove the car under the influence of alcohol, can be released after 10 days. This is a major new development in the case: the four had approached the High Court only after being denied bail by both the Additional Sessions Court, Ernakulam, and the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (JFCM), Angamaly. The High Court noted that the accused had been in custody for almost a month, during which police custody was also given for three days on two separate occasions, Live Law reported. Mirror Now reported that the court also noted that all four accused are in their early twenties and have no prior criminal records, and that Suhail Sajeev is scheduled for release on November 16.

The October 11 crash on the Airport-Athani road

The fatal accident happened in the early hours of October 11, when the Mini Cooper allegedly driven by Sajeev hit a scooter carrying three riders — Eyas, Devika and Gopika — on the Airport-Athani road near Nedumbassery. All three youngsters were killed. The prosecution has alleged offences under Sections 281, 105, 49 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Sajeev and Ninav were arrested on October 11 and remanded to judicial custody, and Joyal and Ameen were arrested and remanded the next day, according to Live Law. These are prosecution allegations and have not been proved in court.

The court heard detailed arguments from Senior Advocate Raman B. Pillai and Advocate Saiby Jose Kidangoor for the accused, Director General of Prosecution T. Asaf Ali for the State, and counsel appearing for the father of one of the victims, Live Law reported. With a detailed order still awaited, the conditions attached to the bail and the next hearing in the case are expected to become clear once the full order is released.
