New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Delhi Police, has successfully secured the extradition of wanted accused Sajeer Palli Mooppam from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India on Wednesday, November 4, the agency said in a press release reported by ANI.

According to the CBI, Mooppam was wanted in connection with a sexual assault case registered by Delhi Police. The agency stated that its investigation revealed the accused, along with an accomplice, allegedly forcibly administered an intoxicating substance to a 20-year-old woman, rendering her incapacitated, and transported her to a hotel, checking in using third-party identity credentials to evade detection, where he allegedly subjected her to a non-consensual sexual assault, which the CBI said was corroborated by subsequent medical and forensic reports. These are the agency's allegations in a case in which, the CBI said, a comprehensive chargesheet has already been filed before the competent court; they have not been decided by the court in this extradition step.

Following the investigation, Delhi Police requested the CBI to initiate action through Interpol channels. Acting on that request, the CBI, which functions as India's National Central Bureau for Interpol, got a Red Notice published against him to facilitate his location and arrest, IANS reported in its account of the same CBI statement. The accused was subsequently geo-located and arrested by the UAE authorities at the request of NCB-New Delhi.
