Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Wakha in connection with the incident, and further investigation is underway. The circumstances that led the vehicle to veer off the mountain road have not yet been ascertained, officials said.

The reports did not release the names of the two personnel. Namika La — the name means 'Pillar of the Sky' — is one of the two high passes on the highway between Kargil and Leh and is traversed by the Srinagar–Leh highway, a lifeline route for the region and for Army movement in Ladakh.
