Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, just hours after being discharged from Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune, Zee News reported. The 85-year-old former Union minister had spent two days at the Pune hospital after complaining of a cough and chest pain, and his fresh admission prompted concern among party workers and supporters.

Baramati Lok Sabha MP and NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule confirmed the admission. Announcing it on X, she wrote that the family was admitting 'Baba' to Breach Candy Hospital for further tests, and thanked people for their concern and good wishes. Mirror Now reported that Pawar was readmitted for further medical evaluation and observation and remained under observation as medical staff continued their assessments.

The readmission came the same day Pawar had been discharged from Ruby Hall Clinic after doctors reported an improvement in his condition and said his chest discomfort had eased. Confirming the discharge, Ruby Hall Clinic chairman and chief cardiologist Dr Purvez Grant said the NCP (SP) chief was 'stable and doing well'. Pawar was seen leaving the Pune hospital in a wheelchair before travelling to Mumbai with family members, although doctors had advised him to rest following his treatment.

Pawar was first admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on Monday, November 2, after complaining of a cough and pleuritic chest pain — pain that can worsen while breathing or coughing. He had fallen unwell after touring drought-affected areas of Solapur district, including Tulshi village in Madha taluka on November 1, where he had assessed water scarcity and crop damage with farmers. This is his third hospitalisation in 2026, after two admissions to Ruby Hall Clinic in February.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Pawar over the telephone to enquire about his health. According to the veteran politician's aide Vitthal Maniyar, PM Modi advised Pawar to take adequate rest. Maniyar said Pawar's health was very good, that there were no serious issues, and that test reports during the Pune stay had shown nothing concerning, ANI reported.

Pawar is one of Maharashtra's most prominent political leaders — he founded the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999, has served as the state's Chief Minister and as a Union minister holding the defence and agriculture portfolios, and now leads the NCP (SP) faction. No fresh medical bulletin from Breach Candy Hospital had been issued at the time of reporting.
