The 911 call and the first response

Officers responded around 1 a.m. on Tuesday to Beekman Street, according to initial emergency communication reports cited by FOX19 NOW. A woman called 911 and reported that her boyfriend had shot her friend.

When officers arrived, they found Overstreet with a gunshot wound, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the accounts published by Cincinnati outlets.

'My baby — she was kind, she was silly'

The man charged, Lindburgh Borden, 19, called Overstreet's mother after the shooting and told her he had just accidentally shot her daughter, the mother told FOX19 NOW.

A mother's words

"My baby, she was kind, she was silly. Sometimes she was the life of the party. She was smart, but like I said most of all she was kind." — Linda Overstreet, the victim's mother, to FOX19 NOW

The charges: reckless homicide and tampering with evidence

Borden is charged with reckless homicide and tampering with evidence, and he is being held on a $200,000 total bond, FOX19 NOW reported. WKRC Local 12 also reported the arrest and the charge in its coverage of the North Fairmount shooting.

Police say Borden fled the homicide scene with the semi-automatic handgun used in the shooting, which they identified as a Glock 19 9mm. That alleged flight with the weapon is the basis described for the tampering-with-evidence charge in the police account reported by FOX19.

Police describe 'horseplay' with a gun

WLWT News 5 reported that police described the shooting as the result of 'horseplay' with a gun inside the residence on Beekman Street. Investigators have not publicly described any dispute or motive beyond that account, and the shooting has been reported by police and local outlets as accidental in nature, while still resulting in a homicide charge.

The charges against Borden are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until the case is proven in court.

What happens next

Borden remains held on the $200,000 bond while the reckless homicide and tampering case moves through the Hamilton County court process. Cincinnati police have not released further details about the moments inside the home, and anyone with information about the Beekman Street shooting is asked to contact Cincinnati police investigators.
