Principal District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg of the Shahdara District Court at Karkardooma convicted the accused, Ranjeet, under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), citing strong forensic evidence and consistent witness testimonies. Evidence the court relied on

During the trial, all material prosecution witnesses, including the complainant Poonam, supported the prosecution's account. The court found that the witness testimony, documentary evidence and forensic findings together established guilt beyond reasonable doubt, NationPress reported.

The court has also referred the matter to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shahdara, for consideration of appropriate compensation for the deceased's dependents under the Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme. An interim compensation of ₹50,000 had already been released to Poonam and the couple's three minor children, as recorded in the court order.

Police response

The Shahdara District Police said the conviction reflects its commitment to effective investigation, pursuing criminal cases through the judicial process and securing justice for victims and their families, and cited the outcome as a significant achievement for the Seemapuri police station team.
