The latest round of approvals goes beyond electronic components alone and also covers projects related to materials and capital goods, widening the scheme's reach across the electronics supply chain, according to the announcement.

The ECMS is aimed at building a domestic ecosystem for components and reducing India's dependence on imports. The government has said it wants to strengthen upstream segments such as raw materials and manufacturing equipment alongside component production itself.

On the same day, the government also launched the Semicon 2.0 web application portal under the Semicon India Programme, the country's semiconductor push.

According to an official factsheet released on September 17 and cited in reports of the announcement, India's electronics production rose from Rs 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs 13.11 lakh crore in 2025-26, while exports climbed from about Rs 38,000 crore to Rs 4.24 lakh crore over the same period.

The November 6 announcement did not give a company-wise breakdown of the 12 approved proposals. The approvals are proposed investments, and the projects will now move towards setting up capacity under the scheme.
