According to the reports, the alleged assault took place earlier this week near a residential society in Heerabag, which falls under the Ashwini Kumar police station area. CCTV footage of the incident circulated widely online, showing a man allegedly beating an elderly woman and other women relatives in public, and the police took cognisance of the video and registered a case.

The case is based on a complaint by Bhavna Raghani, a resident of Nana Varachha, who alleged that Paresh Raghani, a family member, confronted her when she returned from her sister's house. Reports citing the police said the dispute was over pending money from the sale of a piece of land — including, according to one account, Rs 18 lakh in proceeds from a village land sale, along with a disagreement over house rent.
