The hike lands just ahead of Diwali, when household use of ghee and butter for sweets and festive cooking typically surges. Inshorts, reporting NDTV's coverage, likewise said the revised rates came into effect immediately. Nation Press reported that Gujarat Congress spokesperson Dr Manish Doshi described the hike as a shock to consumers, pointing to its proximity to Diwali — a political reaction, reported here as his stated view.

Amul, marketed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), has not issued a formal statement specifically on the ghee and butter hike, Nation Press noted. The revision is the dairy cooperative's second major price action of 2026: in May it raised fresh milk pouch prices by Rs 2 per litre, effective May 14, covering the Gold, Taaza, Shakti and Cow Milk variants, IANS reported.
