A head constable attached to the Pune police headquarters rammed his car into the main gate of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar's official residence on Tuesday evening, in an incident that officials described as a serious breach of security and discipline. The incident took place at about 5.45 pm at the commissioner's residence, which falls under the Koregaon Park police station's jurisdiction.

The accused has been identified as Amol Vasantrao Bhise, aged 42. Police said he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. He allegedly drove the car at high speed into the gate and tried to run over the security personnel posted at the entrance. No injuries were reported in the incident, though the gate and property were damaged.

According to the reports, Bhise has been booked for attempted murder after allegedly trying to hit the on-duty security guards with his vehicle, and the Koregaon Park police have registered a case against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has been taken into custody and further legal action is under way, police said. The allegations against him are yet to be tested in court.

Commissioner cites a record of disciplinary trouble

"The constable was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He has a history of disciplinary issues and has been involved in several offences earlier. He was suspended in 2025 and reinstated in 2026," Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told the news agency PTI. Kumar also said the accused is allegedly suffering from mental health issues.

Officers familiar with the matter said Bhise's actions were reported to have been driven by frustration over a transfer request that had not been granted — he is said to have wanted a posting of his choice. That account of his motive comes from police sources and has not been independently established.

Police said the investigation is continuing and further action is being initiated in the case.
